Albany, N.Y. – Maryellen Devic recorded 10 kills to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Nolan Gymnasium.
With the victory, Saint Rose evens up the fourth installment of the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions at two points apiece.
Following a Le Moyne kill to get the Dolphins within 10-9 in the first set, the Golden Knights registered 12 of the next 17 points to open up an eight-point lead. The Dolphins scored five of the next six points to cut their deficit in half, but the Golden Knights closed out the set with two of the last three points for a 25-20 win. Saint Rose opened the second set with the first five points and later used a 5-1 run to increase its lead to 18-10. The Dolphins countered with a 10-4 run to get within two, but the Golden Knights scored the last three points for another 25-20 win. The Dolphins jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set, but Saint Rose answered back with a 16-3 streak, which included 12 straight points around a Le Moyne timeout. The Dolphins climbed within 19-13, but Saint Rose closed out the set with the last six points for a 25-13 victory.
Sophomore outside hitter
Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) led the Dolphins offensively with a match-high 12 kills, while adding seven digs and two service aces. Classmate
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) recorded eight kills and four digs. Senior setter
Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) directed the offense with 24 assists, while sophomore
Maura Fay (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) led the Dolphins defensively with nine digs.
In addition to her 10 kills, Devic registered four digs and four block assists. Carissa Dube added seven kills, while Katy Daniels led the Golden Knights defensively with 12 digs. Erica Ziskin and Tori Daniels handed out 13 and 11 assists, respectively.
Le Moyne (5-9, 2-3 NE-10), which had its three-match win streak snapped, returns home to face the University of New Haven on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
