WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES FIRST, MEN SECOND AT SEASON-OPENING FRANK DILLON MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) crossed the finish line first to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a first-place finish on Saturday at the season-opening Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational. Junior Chris Davitt (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) also finished first to lead the men's team to a second-place finish.
 
On the women's side, the Dolphins won the team title for the second straight year with 29 points after having five of the top 10 scorers. SUNY ESF recorded 32 points to place second, while Cazenovia placed third with 89 points.
 
Mack, who also finished first last year and has been in the top five in all four career home meets, completed the 4.2-kilometer course in 16:29.2, an improvement of over 20 seconds from last year, to top the field by over seven seconds. Sophomore Eva Keohane (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) was right behind Mack and crossed the finish line in 16:39.9, an improvement of 31 seconds and one place from last year. Classmate Haleigh Pascual (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was the third Dolphin to finish by placing seventh in 17:44.7, almost 12 seconds faster than a year ago. Freshman Samantha Pellegrini (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie) crossed the finish line ninth in her collegiate debut in 18:03.9, while junior Jordan Sloan (Central Square, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) was one spot back in 10th in 18:09.3 to round out the scorers for the Dolphins.

In the men's race, SUNY ESF captured first place in the team competition with 25 points after having five of the first seven finishers. The Dolphins placed second with 36 points with five of the top 12 finishers, while Onondaga Community College was third with 97 points.

Davitt, who placed eighth last year, navigated the 6.2-kilometer course in 21:25.8 to finish first by over 32 seconds. Senior Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) posted a time of 21:58.1 to place second, up eight spots from a year ago. Freshman Ben Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) opened his collegiate career by placing 10th in 23:28.0. Senior Mahamadou Jagana (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) covered the course in 24:01.5 to place 17th, while freshman Trevor Kline (Verona, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) recorded a time of 24:03.6 to place 18th in his collegiate debut to round out Le Moyne's scorers.
 
The Dolphins are back in action next Saturday at the Hamilton College Short Course Invitational. The women's race starts at 11:00 a.m. and the men's race is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start.
