WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES FIRST, MEN SECOND AT SEASON-OPENING LE MOYNE SHORT COURSE INVITATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) crossed the finish line first to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a first-place finish on Saturday at the season-opening Le Moyne College Alumni Short Course Invitational. Senior Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) placed fourth to lead the men's team to a second-place finish.
 
On the women's side, the Dolphins won the team title at home for the first time since 2011 with 18 points after having five of the top seven scorers. SUNY ESF recorded 39 points to place second, while SUNY Delhi placed third with 95 points.
 
Mack, who placed third as a freshman and fifth last year, covered the 4.2-kilometer course in 16:49.35 to top the field by almost eight seconds. Senior Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia), who posted second, seventh and third-place finishes in her first three years as a Dolphin, placed second in 16:57.23. Freshman Eva Keohane (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) gave the Dolphins the top three finishers by crossing the finish line in 17:07.99. Classmate Vanessa Eberhard (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was two spots back in 17:35.87, while sophomore Siara Clos (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) was another two spots back in seventh in 17:47.57 to round out the scorers for the Dolphins.
 
In the men's race, SUNY Delhi captured first place in the team competition for the second straight year with 27 points after having the top three finishers and four of the first seven. The Dolphins placed second with 46 points with four of the top 10 finishers, while SUNY ESF was third with 63 points. SUNY Delhi's Kobie Lane crossed the finish line first for the second consecutive year in a time of 20:13.05, over 19 seconds faster than last year.
 
Beney, who had his second-best finish in the race (second last year), navigated the 6.2-kilometer course in 20:21.45, almost 15 seconds faster than last year. Sophomore Nick Taylor (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) improved by one spot and over 48 seconds by completing the course fifth in 20:24.57, while classmate Chris Davitt (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) finished eighth in 20:56.16, over 64 seconds faster than a year ago. Junior Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) posted a time of 21:50.91, a 13-second improvement from last year, to place 10th, while freshman Brandon Brusehaber (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) recorded a time of 23:30.80 to place 19th in his collegiate debut to round out Le Moyne's scorers.
 
The Dolphins are back in action next Saturday at the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational hosted by Finger Lakes Community College. The women's five-kilometer race starts at 12:30 p.m. and the men's five-mile race is scheduled for a 1:15 p.m. start.
