Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) placed second to lead the Le Moyne College men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton College Golf Course. Classmate
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) finished in fourth place to lead the women's team to a fourth-place finish.
The host Continentals won the men's team competition with 43 points after having four of the top 11 finishers. East Stroudsburg had five of the top 16 finishers en route to second place with 43 points, while Cortland placed third with 89. Utica came in fourth with 99 points, while the Dolphins were three points back in fifth place. East Stroudsburg's Alec Lederer was the first competitor to finish with a time of 25:12.3.
Beney covered the eight-kilometer course in 25:30.0, an improvement of 1:26.5 from last year's event, to claim second place by over 13 seconds. Freshman
Nick Taylor (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) tallied a 13th-place finish by crossing the finish line in 26:38.6. Sophomore
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) improved upon his time from last year by 1:25.3 with a time of 26:56.5 to place 19th, while freshman
Chris Davitt (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) was the next finisher in 26:57.6. Freshman
Dom Battaglia (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered a 68th-place finish in 28:30.2 to round out Le Moyne's scorers.
On the women's side, East Stroudsburg claimed the team competition with 47 points after having five of the top 17 finishers, including Kaylyn West, who crossed the finish line first in 18:44.1. Cortland had five of the top 22 finishers to place second with 66 points, while Ithaca was third with 81 points. The Dolphins registered 93 points to finish in fourth place. Hamilton finished fifth with 100 points.
Cudney navigated the five-kilometer course in 19:11.9 to place fourth among the 126 competitors, an improvement of 13 places from last year. Sophomore
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) finished 12th overall and was third among 30 sophomores by registering a time of 19:31.9. Le Moyne's next three finishers completed the course in a span of four finishers. Freshman
Siara Clos (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) crossed the finish line in 20:00.7 to place 24th. Sophomore
Rachael Miller (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished 26th in 20:02.4, an improvement of 14.3 seconds from last year, while freshman
Jillian Stagnitta (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was the next finisher with a time of 20:06.1.
Following a week off, the Dolphins return to action at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship hosted by Stonehill College on Saturday, October 22 in Easton, Massachusetts.
