Brittany Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) placed third and sophomore
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) placed sixth overall to lead the Le Moyne College women's and men's cross country teams as they opened the 2015 season on campus by hosting the Le Moyne College Alumni Short Course Invitational.
In the men's race, SUNY Delhi captured first place in the team competition with 41 points after having three of the top four finishers on the day. SUNY ESF placed second with 48 points, while Le Moyne was third with 68 points. SUNY Delhi's Jack Hillenbrand crossed the finish line first in a time of 20:52.64.
Beney, who placed fifth in the race last year, navigated the 6.2-kilometer course in 22:09.03 to cross the line sixth. Sophomore
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) finished in 11th place with a time of 22:52.29, while freshman
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) turned in a time of 23:15.20 to place 15th. Senior
Derek Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) placed 18th in 23:31.55, while classmate
Dominik Maida (Hallstead, Pa./Seton Catholic (N.Y.)) registered a time of 23:48.68 to place 23rd in his first race as a Dolphin. Freshmen
Hamza Elhabbal (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and
Ryan Homeyer (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) rounded out Le Moyne's top seven finishers with times of 25:09.52 and 25:24.84, respectively.
On the women's side, Daemen won the team title with 28 points after having four of the top eight finishers. The Dolphins registered 42 points to place second, while SUNY ESF placed third with 56 points. Daemen's Hannah Rice was the first to cross the finish line in a time of 16:39.87.
In her collegiate debut, Mack covered the 4.2-kilometer course in 16:59.69 to place third. Sophomore
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) opened her second season y crossing the line seventh in 17:14.86. Sophomore
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) was five spots behind her classmate with a time of 18:37.47, while junior
Elena Doctor (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) placed 13th in 18:42.79. Freshman
McKenzie Tripp (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) finished 14th in her first race with a time of 18:47.00, while sophomores
Savannah Stevens (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Shania Hayward (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) recorded times of 18:49.67, 21 and 19:29.52, respectively, to round out Le Moyne's top seven finishers.
The Dolphins are back in action next Saturday at the Saratoga Invitational hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Saratoga State Park in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
