Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - Freshman
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) finished in 30th place to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team at the Saratoga Invitational hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Saratoga State Park on Saturday. Sophomore
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) led the men's team by placing 56th.
In the women's race, St. Lawrence won the team competition with 54 points after having five of the top 21 finishers. RPI came in second with 61 points, while Stevens Institute was third with 83. Ithaca placed fourth with 148 and Siena was next with 160 points. The Dolphins totaled 397 points to place 16th. Megan Kellogg from St. Lawrence won the 277-competitor race in 17:28.6.
Mack navigated the five-kilometer course in 18:57.5 to place 30th, including sixth among the 92 freshmen in the event. Sophomore
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) came in 58th with a time of 19:19.5, while classmate
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) was 118th in 20:18.7. Junior
Elena Doctor (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) turned in a time of 20:27.3 to place 132nd, while sophomore
Savannah Stevens (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) registered a time of 21:00.0 to place 162nd to round out Le Moyne's top-five scorers.
St. Lawrence also won the men's race, accumulating just 33 points after having five of the first 13 finishers. NYU had five of the first 14 finishers to place second with 47 points. RPI came in third with 99 points, while Vassar was fourth with 173 and Stevens Institute was one spot back with 176 points. RPI's Benjamin Fazio crossed the finish line first in the 302-member race in 18:51.5.
Beney covered the six-kilometer course in 20:12.0 to finish in 56th place, including 10th among the 73 sophomores. Classmate
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) registered a time of 20:58.1 to place 121st, while freshman
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) finished in 172nd place in 21:21.7. Seniors
Dominik Maida (Hallstead, Pa./Seton Catholic (N.Y.)) and
Derek Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) were Le Moyne's fourth and fifth finishers with times of 22:06.0 and 22:39.6, respectively.
Le Moyne returns to action on Saturday at the Aldrich Invitational hosted by Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt.
