Jamesville, N.Y. – Sophomore
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) finished in first place to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Cazenovia College Homecoming Invitational on Saturday morning at Jamesville Beach State Park. Sophomore
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) placed fourth to lead the men's team to a first-place finish.
The Le Moyne women had five of the top 17 scorers to claim first place with 46 points. SUNY Cobleskill registered 63 points to finish in second place, while the host Wildcats tallied 74 points to finish third. Paul Smith's College and Morrisville State followed with 106 points each.
Cudney completed the six-kilometer course in 22:46 to outrun her competition by 48 seconds. Freshman
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) crossed the finish line second with a time of 23:34. Sophomore
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley), freshman
Rachael Miller (Baldwinsvilee, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and sophomore
Savannah Stevens (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) were the next Dolphins to finish. Markstein placed 11th in 24:40, Miller completed the race 18th in 25:14 and Stevens was three seconds later in 19th place.
On the men's side, the Dolphins had five of the top 19 scorers to secure first place with 69 points. Paul Smith's totaled 90 points to place second, while Cobleskill was five points back in third. SUNY IT was another four points back in fourth place with Mohawk Valley Community College rounding out the top five with 135 points.
Beney navigated the eight-kilometer course in 27:02 to cross the tape fourth. Freshman
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) finished in an even 29 minutes to place 14th, while sophomore
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) registered a time of 29:04 to finish in 15th place. Senior
Dominik Maida (Hallstead, Pa./Seton Catholic (N.Y.)) also recorded a time of 29:04 to place 17th, while classmate
Derek Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) finished in 20th place in 29:14.
The Dolphins, who honored the senior class of Maida, Clar and
Adam Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) following the meet, complete the regular season next Saturday at Hamilton College. The women start at 11:00 a.m. and the men follow at 12:00 p.m.
