Clinton, N.Y. – Sophomore
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) finished in 21st place to lead the Le Moyne College men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton College Golf Course. Sophomore
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) placed 18th to lead the women's team to a ninth-place finish.
The host Continentals won the men's team competition with 31 points after having five of the top 11 finishers. East Stroudsburg had five of the top 16 finishers en route to second place with 48 points, while Cortland placed third with 110. Ottawa came in fourth with 116 points, while St. John Fisher had 144 points to place fifth. The Dolphins were eighth with 248 points. Mohawk Valley Community College's Zakaria Djouma was the first competitor to finish with a time of 25:12.6.
Beney navigated the eighth-kilometer course in 26:56.5 to cross the finish line fourth among 49 competing sophomores. Freshman
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) was 69th in the 173-member field with a time of 28:21.8, while senior
Derek Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) turned in a time of 28:36.1 to place 76th. Classmate
Adam Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered an 84th-place finish by crossing the line in 28:48.6, while sophomore
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) was two places behind in 28:52.3.
On the women's side, East Stroudsburg claimed the team competition with 33 points after having five of the top 13 finishers, including Allison Decker, who crossed the finish line first in 17:09.6. Cortland had four of the top 12 finishers to place second with 51 points, while Ottawa was third with 63 points. Hamilton finished fourth with 121 points, while Utica tallied 158 to place fifth. The Dolphins collected 230 points to place ninth.
Cudney completed five-kilometer course in 18:36.8 to place 18th among the 181 competitors, including fourth among 41 sophomores. Freshman
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) was third among 74 first-year competitors to cross the tape, registering a time of 18:40.8 to place 23rd overall. Sophomore
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) recorded a time of 20:11.8 to place 85th, while freshman
Rachael Miller (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished 90th in 20:16.7. Classmate
McKenzie Tripp (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was three spots back in 20:24.2.
Following a week off, the Dolphins return to action at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship hosted by Saint Michael's College on Sunday, October 25 in Colchester, Vermont.
