LE MOYNE WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM HONORED FOR ACADEMICS, CHIRSTINA PHELAN AND COLLEEN MCMAHON GARNER ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women’s cross country team and individuals Christina Phelan (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and Colleen McMahon (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham) are among the honorees as the NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association has named its top academic performers. The Le Moyne women’s cross country team compiled a team GPA of 3.27 to gain a spot among the nation’s top Division II teams in the classroom.
Phelan, a junior Biology major, has compiled a 3.58 grade point average. On the cross country course, she was Le Moyne’s top finisher in both the NCAA Regional and the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Phelan placed 19th at the NCAA Championship with a time of 24:25.2 and ran 24th at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a time of 21:17.2 in the 5k.
McMahon, a senior Peace and Global Studies major, boasts a 3.44 grade point average. She was 23rd in the NCAA Regional with a time of 24:44.5 and 46th at the Northeast-10 Conference championship where she covered the 5k course in 22:06.8. McMahon was Le Moyne’s top finisher in the Saint Rose Golden Knight Joust where she led the Dolphins to a team title with a third-place time of 20:07.
The Dolphins were fifth at the NCAA New England Regional and fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship this season. To qualify for the award, a team needs a cumulative grade point average through the semester of competition of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Individuals must have completed 24 semester hours with at least a 3.25 gpa on a 4.0 scale and finish among the top 30% at the regional championship.
