New Haven, Conn. – Jade Black registered a double-double to lead Southern Connecticut State University to a 3-2 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Pelz Gymnasium.

Southern Connecticut State opened the match by taking the first game, 25-23. After the teams split the first 18 points of the game, the Owls scored five of the next seven points to open the largest lead of the game. Le Moyne answered back with a 4-1 run to knot the score at 15-apiece. Southern Connecticut countered with back-to-back points and five of the next six points to take a 20-16 advantage. The Dolphins answered again, recording three straight points and seven of the ensuing eight points around a Southern Connecticut timeout to take a 23-21 lead. The Owls took advantage of two Le Moyne attack errors around a pair of blocks to capture the game.

The Dolphins answered back in the second game by recording a 25-17 victory. Le Moyne opened the game with the first four points and nine of the first 10 points around a timeout by the Owls. The teams then traded points, with Le Moyne's lead bouncing between seven and 11 points. After the Owls scored three straight points to pull within 24-17, senior middle hitter Morgan McDermott (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) landed a kill to end the game.

The Owls regained the lead in the match with a 25-21 win in the third game. After the Dolphins scored eight of the first 12 points, the Owls scored six of the next seven points to take the lead. The Dolphins countered with three straight points to regain the lead. After the teams traded 2-0 runs, resulting in a 16-14 Le Moyne edge, Southern Connecticut tallied five straight points to take the lead for good and force a Le Moyne timeout. The Dolphins scored the first point out of the timeout, but the Owls registered the next four points for a 23-17 advantage. Le Moyne got within three on a pair of occasions, the last time at 24-21, but Sarah Beres landed a kill to close out the win for the Owls.

Le Moyne stayed alive in the match by cruising to a 25-15 victory in the fourth game. The Dolphins opened the game with the first eight points. Sophomore setter Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) recorded three service aces in the run, while setting up two kills by junior outside hitter Madison Snow (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina). The Owls countered with eight of the next 11 points to cut their deficit to three. Le Moyne answered with an 8-3 run of its own to regain its eight-point lead. After the teams traded points, the Dolphins scored four of the final five points of the game to even the match at two games apiece.

Southern Connecticut captured its fourth conference victory of the year by winning the fifth game, 25-15. After McDermott registered a kill for the first point of the game, the Owls scored six of the next seven points to force a Le Moyne timeout. Following a Le Moyne kill to make the score 8-4, the Owls four consecutive points to force a second Le Moyne timeout. The Dolphins scored four of the first five points out of the timeout to pull within 13-8 and force a timeout by the Owls. After the Dolphins closed within 14-10, Black landed a kill to end the match.

McDermott registered her first career double-double with 13 kills and a career-high 12 blocks, the highest total in the conference this season and the most by a Dolphin in over 10 years. Snow led five Dolphins with double-digit kills with 16, while adding 14 digs. Senior outside hitters Allison Hebel (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and Bethany Fabian (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) each posted 10 kills as part of double-doubles, with Hebel recording 13 digs and Fabian registering 25 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Kristen Willets (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) registered a career-high 13 kills, while senior libero Kelsey Polanski (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) recorded a career-best 16 digs. Maisonet directed Le Moyne's offense with 47 assists, while adding 15 digs and five service aces.

Black led the Owls with 14 kills and 21 digs. Syriah Celestine was the only other Owl to record double-digit kills with 12. Vanessa Sullivan led Southern Connecticut defensively with 25 digs, while Morgan Carman added 13 digs. Kimberly Lachowicz dished out 41 assists, while landing six kills.

Le Moyne (12-5, 3-2 NE-10), which had its three-match win streak snapped, returns to the court on Friday against Pace at 6:30 p.m.
