VOLLEYBALL KNOCKS OFF COKER, 3-0, FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Indiana, Pa. – Senior middle hitter Morgan McDermott (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) slammed down 10 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Coker on Saturday morning at the Crimson Hawk Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The Dolphins opened the match by taking the first game, 25-19. The teams opened the game by trading points, resulting in a 14-all tie after the first 28 serves. Le Moyne then rattled off three straight points on each side of a Coker timeout behind the serve of senior outside hitter Allison Hebel (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) to take a 20-14 advantage. The Cobras answered with four consecutive points, but the Dolphins were able to close out the game with a 5-1 run.

Le Moyne pushed its lead to 2-0 with another 25-19 win in the second game. After splitting the game's first 30 points, the Dolphins took the lead for good with three straight points. Coker closed within 19-18, but Le Moyne countered with a pair of 3-0 runs around a Coker point for the victory.

The Dolphins closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the third game. After the teams went back-and-forth over the opening 18 points of the game, the Dolphins posted four straight points behind the serve of senior outside hitter Bethany Fabian (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier). The Cobras answered back with five of the next six points to knot the score 14-apiece. Le Moyne countered with three straight points and nine of the game's next 11 to pull away. Fabian then slammed down a kill to end the match.

In addition to her 10 kills, McDermott added three blocks. Fabian finished the day with eight kills, while adding 12 digs and three blocks. Sophomore setter Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) directed the offense by dishing out 22 assists.

Taylor Willis led the Cobras with 11 kills, while Brittany Bass registered 22 digs and Samantha Celek handed out 24 assists.

Le Moyne (1-2) returns to action on Saturday at home with a tri-match with Chestnut Hill and Mercy. The Dolphins face Chestnut Hill at 12:00 p.m. and Mercy at 4:00 p.m.
