WOMEN’S TENNIS TOPPED BY MERRIMACK, 8-1, IN FALL SEASON HOME FINALE

Liverpool, N.Y. – Junior Margaret LaFleur (Darien Center, N.Y./Attica) won in singles action, but the Le Moyne College women's tennis team fell to Merrimack College, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Gold's Gym.

In doubles play, Grace Messina and Shakee Messina recorded an 8-3 win over senior Kristine Kenny (Baytown, Texas/Ross S. Sterling-Baytown) and junior Jessica Geary (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) at the top position. Chealsey Giatrelis and Kara Hole posted an 8-2 win over freshman Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic) and junior Dominique Canale (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego/Arcadia) at second doubles, while Alyx Barnes and Rachel Muller were 8-3 winners over sophomore Allison Jones (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) and LaFleur at the third spot.

LaFleur improved to 5-1 on the season at the sixth position with a 9-7 victory over Barnes. At the top spot, Grace Messina ended Perry's two-match win streak with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Shakee Messina was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Kenny at the second position. Giatrelis registered a 6-1, 6-0 win at the third spot over Canale. With the match already clinched, Hole and Muller recorded 8-1 and 8-4 wins over Geary and Jones, respectively.

Le Moyne (0-8, 0-5 NE-10) returns to the courts on Thursday at Stonehill College at 3:00 p.m.
