SWIMMING PLACES 3RD AT 2008 NYSWCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
NOTTINGHAM, N.Y. – Le Moyne hosted the
2008 NYSWCAA Swimming and Diving Championship Feb. 20-23 at
Nottingham High school. Senior Alison Lesher placed first in three
different individual events (500/200 yard freestyle & 200 yard
butterfly). The Dolphins placed third out of 17 teams with 940.50
points. Union College topped the meet with 1,207 points. Ithaca
College took second place with 1,016 points.
Thursday’s action opened with six events. The Dolphins
captured a seventh place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Nicole Murphy (SO), Sarah Casey (SO), Lauren Ziemann (JR), and
Shelley Mcnamee (SO) collected 46 points with a time of 1:40.63.
The Dolphins also had two members of their swimming and diving team
finish in the top ten of the 500 yard freestyle. Lesher finished
first with a time of 5:05.82. Junior Meghan Nugent finished seventh
with a time of 5:22.06. Geneva Suits (SR), Shelley McNamee (SO),
Aimee Catroppa (SO), and Lauren Ziemann (JR) took fourth place in
the women 400 yard medley relay with a combined time of 4:03.93
earning 52 points.
Day two of the 2008 Women’s NYSWCAA Swimming Championship
opened with the 200 yard medley relay. Le Moyne placed third with a
time of 1:50.53. Nugent finished eighth in the 100 yard butterfly
with a time of 1:02.88. Lesher won her second individual event of
the Championship weekend with a first place finish in the 200 yard
freestyle (1:55.22). Murphy took second place in the 100 yard
breaststroke (1:07.77).
Alyssa Turidy (SR) started off the final day of action capturing a
sixth place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle (18:20.08). The
Dolphins had two top five finishers in the 200 yard butterfly.
Lesher captured her third first place finish of the weekend
(2:28.99) and Nugent placed third (2:12.29).
