ALISON LESHER CLAIMS SECOND STATE CROWN, LE MOYNE FINISHES FOURTH AT NYSWCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior All-America Alison Lesher (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) touched first in the 200 butterfly to claim her second championship of the meet as Le Moyne held onto fourth-place at the NYSWCAA Swimming and Diving Championship. Lesher also won the 500 free on the first day of the three-day championship. Union topped the team event, edging Ithaca, Nazareth and the Dolphins.
Lesher topped the 200 butterfly in 2:05.84, nearly four seconds better than the runner-up. She topped the 500 free in 5:07.15 earlier in the week.
Four other swimmers and a relay posted top eight finishes on the final day of action. Three swimmers placed in the finals of the 1,650 free. Erin Rappold (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) was fourth in 18:16.07, Meghan Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) was sixth in 18:26.70 and Alyssa Tubridy (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) touched eighth in 18:32.09. In the 200 breaststroke, Nicole Murphy (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) captured sixth with a time of 2:30.97. Nugent was eighth in 200 butterfly (2:17.53) and the 400 free relay captured fifth place.
Union's Molly Freeman was named Diver of the Meet, while her coach Emily Clinkhammer garnered top Diving Coach honors. Alison Lesher's twin sister Emily Lesher of Nazareth College won Swimmer of the Meet honors and Ithaca's Paula Miller was named the top coach.
Alison Lesher has qualified for the NCAA Division II Swimming Championship. She will return to action on the national meet which starts on March 14 at Erie Community College in Buffalo.
