NORTHEAST-10 SWIMMING & DIVING AWARDS ANNOUNCED Le Moyne's Chidsey and Lesher Named NE-10 Swimming Athletes of the Year
South Easton, Mass. - Le Moyne College's Ricky Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Alison Lesher (Sherrill, N.Y.) were named the 2006-07 Men's and Women's Swimming Athletes of the Year respectively as voted upon by the conference's seven coaches.
Also receiving post-season award accolades are the College of Saint Rose's Craig Albertini-Diaz (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) who was voted Men's Freshman of the Year and teammate Brandon Birchak (Latham, N.Y.) who received Men's Diving Athlete of the Year honors.
Southern Connecticut State University had two student-athletes earn post-season honors as well. Cody Hall (Parker, Col.) was voted Women's Freshman of the Year, while Ali Bronson (Torrington, Conn.) earned Women's Diving Athlete of the Year honors.
Saint Rose's Keith Murray was voted Men's Swimming Coach of the Year by his peers, while Southern Connecticut's Tim Quill was voted Women's Swimming Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year. Jesse Cyr of Southern Connecticut was selected as the Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year.
Last year's men's freshman of the year, Chidsey recorded 10th and 12th place finishes at the NCAA Championship this season. At the Northeast-10 Championship was named the Most Valuable Swimmer of the meet after winning four individual events and three relay events.
Lesher finished the 2006-07 season with a second place performance in the 200-yard butterfly event at the NCAA Championship. She was the Most Valuable Swimmer at the Northeast-10 championship, while winning four events (200 Free, 100 Butterfly, 500 Free, 200 Butterfly)
This season Albertini-Diaz broke the school record in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.95) and had two top five finishes at the Northeast-10 championship (3rd - 100-yard butterfly and 5th - 50-yard free).
Birchak had a record-breaking season for the Golden Knights. He was the NCAA Division II champion in the one-meter and three-meter diving events, while being named the NCAA Male Diver of the meet. Birchak also won both diving events at the Northeast-10 championship and was named the Most Valuable Diver of the meet.
As a freshman, Hall represented Southern Connecticut at the 2007 NCAA Championship. She finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly and finished in the top 16 in the 400-yard butterfly. Bronson also represented the Owls at the NCAA Championship. She finished ninth and 16th in the one-meter and three-meter diving events respectively. At the Northeast-10 and Metro Championships, Bronson won both the one-meter and the three-meter events. She was named the Most Valuable Diver of the Northeast-10 Championship.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
