ALISON LESHER NAMED SWIMMER OF THE MEET, DOLPHINS FINISH SECOND AT NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Alison Lesher (Sherrill, N.Y./V-V-S) won four individual events and was named the Most Valuable Swimmer of the meet to help Le Moyne to a second-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Swimming & Diving Championship. Lesher, the first female All-America swimmer in program history, won the 200 free, 100 butterfly, 500 free and 200 butterfly to capture her second consecutive top swimmer honor at the league championship. Host Southern Connecticut State captured the top spot, followed by Le Moyne, Bentley, Bryant, Saint Rose, Pace and Saint Michael's.
Freshman Nicole Murphy (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) also earned a pair of individual wins for Le Moyne at the championship. She topped the 200 breaststroke in a championship-record time of 2:30.06 and won the 200 IM in 2:15.59.
Lesher set three championship records and posted two ‘A' cut times for the NCAA Division II Championship. She won the 200 free with an NCAA Championship ‘B' cut time of 1:55.40. Her 100 butterfly time of 59.01 was a meet record and a ‘B' cut time.
She made her biggest mark in the 500 free and 200 butterfly. In the 500 free, Lesher set a championship record and posted an ‘A' cut time of 5:01.05. Ironically, she posted a new standard in the preliminary round of the 200 butterfly. She swam a meet-record 2:05.69 and ‘A' cut time of 2:05.69 in the preliminaries before winning the event in the finals with a time of 2:10.69.
