WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED ON THE ROAD BY FRANKLIN PIERCE, 1-0
Rindge, N.H. – Caroline Savasta converted a penalty kick to give Franklin Pierce University a 1-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field.
Following a scoreless first half, during which Le Moyne registered an 8-3 advantage in shots, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal, the Ravens struck for the game's only goal just over 11 minutes into the second half. After Yasmin Civan was knocked to the ground by a Le Moyne defender at the 56:12 mark, Savasta converted the penalty kick for her second game-winning penalty kick in a span of four days.
The Dolphins put two shots on goal over the final 15 minutes of the contest, but could not find the back of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Werthmann (Macomb, Mich./Chippewa Valley) registered seven saves between the pipes, but took the loss for the Dolphins. Katie Weldon turned away a pair of shots in each half to pick up the win for the Ravens. Franklin Pierce finished the game with a 15-10 advantage in shots after taking 12 of the second half's 14 shots, while recording a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (4-7-2, 2-6-2 NE-10), which was shut out for the fifth time in the last nine games (1-6-2), returns home to face Adelphi University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
