Women's Soccer vs. Assumption - 10/2/12

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team tied Assumption, 2-2, in double-overtime on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins struck for the game's first goal less than five minutes into the contest. Junior midfielder Colleen Oberle (Euclid, Ohio/Regina) intercepted an Assumption pass before playing a through ball up the middle of the field to senior forward Christie Morano (Highland, N.Y./Highland), who sent a shot underneath goalkeeper Allison Bruder and into the lower right corner of the net for her ninth goal of the season.

Le Moyne extended its lead to two at the 28:13 mark off a free kick. Senior back Stephanie Bonzerato (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) sent the free kick from the left side into the lower right corner of the goal box, where junior midfielder Carly Bonzerato (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) redirected the ball in front of the goal. Senior midfielder Gabriele Ariola (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) kicked the ball out of the air and into the net from two yards off the goal line for her third tally of the campaign.

The Greyhounds answered back just 3:26 later to cut their deficit back to one. Caitlin Sewall sent a crossing pass from outside the right edge of the penalty box into the middle of the box, where a charging Nicole Savi put a shot from 14 yards out into the lower right corner of the goal for her second marker of the year.

Assumption evened the score at two-apiece just over three minutes into the second half. Andrea Bates sent a pass up the middle of the field to Molly Kessler, who slotted her shot inside the near right post from nine yards out.

Le Moyne had its best chance to regain the lead with 20:58 remaining, but put a shot from inside the goal box over the crossbar. The Greyhounds had three shots to net the game-winner in the final minute, but could not convert. Savi had a header with 47 seconds remaining that was knocked down by freshman goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool). Sitting on the ground, Savi kicked the loose ball towards the goal, but junior back Morgan Strutt (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) cleared the ball away from the open net. With just 19 seconds left in regulation, Kessler had an open shot from just off the top right corner of the goal box, but put the shot over the crossbar.

The Dolphins registered a 2-1 edge in shots in each overtime period, but none of the six shots were on target.

Corsaro, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week after posting two shutouts last week, made five saves in picking up her single-season program-record fourth tie of the year. Bruder posted three saves to earn her third tie of the campaign.

Le Moyne (2-4-4, 0-4-4 NE-10), which has tied three straight games for the first time in the program's 33-year history, returns to action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire at 4:00 p.m.
