WSOC: DOLPHINS END SEASON WITH 3-0 LOSS TO #2 SAINT
ROSE
Syracuse, N.Y. - Midfielder Amanda Deck scored a goal and assisted
on two others to lead 2nd-ranked The College of Saint Rose to a 3-0
win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10
Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland
Athletic Complex.
The Golden Knights opened the game's scoring in the 32nd minute
off a scramble in the penalty box. Deck collected the ball at the
top of the box and passed to Derith Fernandes, who scored from
eight yards out in the middle of the field. Just over seven and a
half minutes later, Saint Rose doubled its lead on Deck's second
assist of the contest. Deck took a shot from 10 yards that was
saved by sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Stevens (Camillus,
N.Y./West Genesee), but Kristen Bidosky knocked the
rebound off the right post and into the goal. Neither team was able
to get on the scoreboard the remainder of the half to go into
halftime with the Golden Knights leading 2-0.
Deck completed the scoring at the 62:52 mark with her team-high
sixth goal of the season. Deck's shot from the endline on the right
side of the field bounced into and out of the hands of goalkeeper
Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and
into the goal.
The Golden Knights, who win their third regular season
championship in the last four years, out-shot the Dolphins 23-9,
while also holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Stevens posted
three saves in the first half, while McGee made two stops in the
second half. Susan Cowan turned away the only shot she faced in
74:20 of action, while Shannon Murphy stopped one shot in the final
15:40 of the match.
Le Moyne (10-7-2, NE-10 6-7-2) finishes its season with
double-digit wins for the first time since the 2000 season and for
only the sixth time in the program's 30-year history.
