WSOC: NO. 9 FRANKLIN PIERCE DOWNS LE MOYNE, 5-0, IN NE-10
ACTION
Rindge, N.H. - Seniors Gabriela Demoner and Rachel Smith scored two
goals each as No. 9 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce cruised to a
5-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Sunday
afternoon at Sodexo Field.
Smith got the Ravens on the board in the 12th minute with a header
following a corner kick from the right side by Demoner. Less than
six minutes later, Demoner added to Franklin Pierce's lead with a
shot inside the left post after spinning around her defender in the
penalty box.
The Ravens, which snapped a two-game losing streak, it's longest in
over three years, tallied their final three goals in an eight
minute span to close out the first half. Smith added her second
goal of the season with a header into the back of the net off a
free kick from 40 yards out by Amanda Panaro at the 35:15 mark.
Demoner, a three-time All-American, tallied her eighth goal of the
season by faking out a defender at the top of the penalty box and
converting a shot off the left post and into the goal with just
over five minutes remaining in the stanza. Junior Angelika
Johansson, a two-time All-American, capped the scoring for the
Ravens with 1:37 left after Demoner fed the ball ahead and
Johansson went around the right side of the goalkeeper and
scored.
After being out-shot 22-3 in the opening half, the Dolphins held a
13-4 advantage in shots in the second half. Le Moyne's best scoring
chance came on a penalty kick with 16:05 left in the contest, but
Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon made the save.
Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings
Park) registered five saves in her first collegiate start
for the Dolphins. Leon posted six saves between the pipes in
registering her first career shutout.
Le Moyne (2-1-1, NE-10 0-1-1) returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8
