WSOC: LE MOYNE FALLS TO SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT, 2-1, IN OVERTIME

New Haven, Conn. - Jenna Mallico scored with just over one minute remaining in the first overtime period to lead Southern Connecticut State to a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Jess Dow Field.

The two squads played to a scoreless opening 45 minutes. The Owls held a 10-3 advantage in shots on the Dolphins and controlled possession of the ball through a majority of the half. Senior goalkeeper Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) kept Southern Connecticut off the board in the 31st minute with a diving save to her right to stop a header.

The Owls broke the scoreless tie with a goal at the 58:39 mark of the contest. Danielle MacMurray placed a shot into the side of the goal off an assist by Erin Conrod.

With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, junior defender Courtney Paddock (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) knotted the score at one apiece from just outside the penalty box with a shot into the left side of the goal off an assist from classmate Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt).

Mallico netted the game-winning goal at the 98:42 mark off a feed from Katrina Cook. Cook took the ball down the left side of the field before finding Mallico in the middle of the field for the game-winner.

The Owls registered an 18-9 advantage in shots in the contest, including 3-0 in the overtime period, while also holding an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Abbatiello made a season-high tying eight saves in the match, while Southern Connecticut's Katie DiDio stopped five shots between the pipes.
