CHRISTINA HARRISON SCORES TWICE IN LE MOYNE'S 5-1 VICTORY OVER ROBERTS WESLEYAN
Rochester, N.Y. - Junior Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored two goals to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a 5-1 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Tuesday night.
Roberts Wesleyan (2-1) took an early 1-0 lead with a goal just 2:50 into the contest. Laura Willit put the Raiders on the board with a goal off a feed from Erika Luedke.
Harrison scored the equalizer just over one and a half minutes later on an unassisted goal. Sophomore Riane Fletcher (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) converted a penalty kick at the 12:39 mark of the opening half to give the Dolphins the lead. Harrison, who has tallied a team-high four goals in the opening three games of the season, capped the scoring in the first half just under two minutes later with a second unassisted goal. The Dolphins, who scored on three of their five first half shots, took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Freshman Rachel Farneti (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) added to Le Moyne's lead in the 61st minute with her first collegiate goal. Junior Megan O'Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) closed out the game's scoring with an unassisted tally at the 73:09 mark of the contest.
Le Moyne out-shot the Raiders 11-7 in the contest and held a 13-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) picked up the win in net for the Dolphins, registering three saves in 45 minutes of action. Freshman Melissa Stevens (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) made her first appearance of the season in between the pipes, recording 45 minutes without allowing a goal. Elizabeth Kennedy recorded fives saves in goal for Roberts Wesleyan.
Le Moyne (3-0) plays its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2:30 p.m. against 2007 national runner-up Franklin Pierce.
