LE MOYNE WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN OVERTIME, 1-0 TO TOP-SEEDED
SAINT ROSE IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS
ALBANY, N.Y. - Saint Rose scored early in the first overtime period to hold off Le Moyne 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Quarterfinals at the University of Albany. The eighth-seeded Dolphins (8-8-1) complete their season, while top seed and fifth-ranked Saint Rose (16-1-1) advances to the conference semifinals. Le Moyne was making its first postseason appearance since 2000.
To net the game-winner, Saint Rose's Sami Brown collected a through ball from Lindsay Bove, dribbled around Le Moyne goalkeeper Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and kicked home the only goal of the game. The goal, which came one minute and 31 seconds into the extra session, marked Brown's sixth goal of the season.
Le Moyne gave the Northeast-10 Conference regular season champions all they could handle in regulation. The Dolphins had a scoring chance of their own in the 56th minute when freshman forward Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) had a one-on-one opportunity. Harrison's ensuing shot was hit wide left after Saint Rose junior keeper Laura Steinberg came off her line to cut down the angle on the play.
Le Moyne was outshot 15-6 for the match, but the host Golden Knights held just a 5-4 edge in shots for the opening half. Abbatiello made six saves in the contest for Le Moyne, while Steinberg made three stops for the victors.
Saint Rose, ranked No. 5 in the latest NSCAA Division II poll, hosts Bryant on Friday in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals. The Bulldogs edged fifth-seeded Merrimack 2-1.
