Le Moyne Athletics : No. 6 Saint Rose outlasts Le Moyne 2-1, Christina Harrison scores goal for Dolphins

NO. 6 SAINT ROSE HOLDS OFF LE MOYNE 2-1, CHRISTINA HARRISON SCORES GOAL FOR DOLPHINS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Deanna Wachtel scored on a second-half header to lift No. 6 Saint Rose to a 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer win over Le Moyne at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Golden Knights improve to 14-1-1 overall and 11-1-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins (8-7, 6-7 Northeast-10) lose for just the second time at home this season.

With the score tied at one, Alexandra LaFite lined up a corner kick from the right side. She lofted it in front of the goalmouth where Wachtel redirected it home for the decisive goal and the only score of the second half.

The two teams traded scores in the opening half. Jordan Bowers put the visitors on the board first. A Le Moyne defender headed a Saint Rose shot away from the net, but Bowers headed that clear attempt into the net for the first goal of the game 34:06 into the contest. Just under four minutes later, freshman Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) knocked in a headed crossing pass by Alex Dwyer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) to tie the contest at one. Harrison's goal marked her team-high eighth of the season.

Sophomore Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made three saves for Le Moyne. Harrison's goal was Le Moyne's only shot on target. The Dolphins were outshot 8-6, including 4-1 in the second half. Saint Rose held a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne, 6-2 at home this season, closes out the regular season with a Northeast-10 Conference match against Southern N.H. at noon on Saturday. The Dolphins will advance to their first Northeast-10 Conference tournament since 2000 with a win or tie. If Southern N.H. wins Saturday's contest, the Penmen will advance to the conference tournament.
