WOMEN'S SOCCER: SAINT ANSELM 4, LE MOYNE 1
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jocelyn Savastano scored two goals to lead Saint Anselm to a 4-1 Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer win over Le Moyne. The Hawks (8-5-3, 5-4-3 Northeast-10) pull even with Le Moyne (8-6, 6-6 Northeast-10) into a tie for seventh in the league standings.
Saint Anselm took advantage of a Le Moyne foul in the penalty area to score the match's first goal in the third minute. Stephanie Blaisdell converted a penalty kick 2:24 into the contest to put the Hawks up 1-0.
Savastano, the Northeast-10 Conference's leading scorer, scored the next two goals. Just over 13 minutes after the game's first goal, she made it 2-0 with a goal off a feed from Bethany Dunn. Savastano delivered the hosts a 3-0 lead with her 18th goal of the season, 8:40 into the second half.
Freshman Megan O'Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) knocked home a pass from Nicole Benton (Gloversville, N.Y./Amsterdam) for Le Moyne's only goal of the game. O'Shea's seventh goal of the season equaled fellow rookie Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) for the team goal and points (16) lead.
Le Moyne returns home for its final two contests of the regular season. The Dolphins host No. 5 Saint Rose on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and wrap up the regular season next Saturday at noon in a match that could decide the postseason fates of both teams.
