NO. 15 FRANKLIN PIERCE HOLDS OFF LE MOYNE 2-1, COURTNEY
PADDOCK SCORES FIRST GOAL FOR DOLPHINS
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Gabriela Demoner
(Curitiba, Brazil) scored the game-winning goal and set up
the tying score as No. 15 Franklin Pierce topped Le Moyne 2-1 in a
Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer match at the Thomas J.
Niland Athletic Complex. The Ravens (9-2, 8-2 Northeast-10) extend
their winning streak to eight straight, while Le Moyne (7-4, 6-4
Northeast-10) suffers its first home loss of the season.
Freshman Courtney Paddock (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) put Le Moyne up 1-0 on a corner kick 8:50 into the contest. After freshman Christina Harrison's (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) attacking move into the Franklin Pierce box was knocked over the end line, Paddock lined up for the corner kick. The left-footed defender angled the kick through traffic into the net for her first goal of the season.
Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) netted the equalizer, pushing home a crossing pass from Demoner in the 32nd minute. Twenty minutes and 31 seconds into the second half, Demoner converted a direct kick from just outside the top of the penalty area to give the visitors a 2-1 edge.
The Ravens outshot their hosts 16-9. Sophomore Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made five of her seven saves in the second half for Le Moyne. Jenna Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) made five saves for Franklin Pierce.
Le Moyne, 5-1 at home this season, travels to Merrimack for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday.
