CHRISTINA HARRISON SCORES IN FIRST MINUTE, MEGAN O'SHEA SCORES LATE AS LE MOYNE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, 2-0 OVER ASSUMPTION
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored in the first minute and Megan O'Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) scored in the final minutes to lead Le Moyne to a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer win over Assumption. The Dolphins (6-2, 5-2 Northeast-10) have won three straight games and are off to their best start since 2000, while Assumption drops to 3-4-3 overall and 2-3-3 in league action.
Just 17 seconds into the contest, O'Shea played a crossing pass to Harrison who knocked home her team-high seventh goal of the season. Harrison has scored in six of the seven games she has played this season.
O'Shea tacked on an insurance goal in the 84th minute. Senior Nicole Benton (Gloversville, N.Y./Amsterdam) fired a shot on the Assumption net where Greyhounds goalkeeper Lauren Matysiak (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) deflected it. O'Shea collected the rebound and knocked it home for her fourth goal of the season.
Le Moyne sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made three saves in the first half and one in the second for her second consecutive shutout. Matysiak posted four saves in defeat for the visitors. Assumption, an NCAA tournament team each of the last two seasons, outshot its hosts 12-9 and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne travels to Bryant for a 3 p.m. match on Tuesday.
