#2 WOMEN’S LACROSSE UPSET BY #14 PFEIFFER, 10-8
Misenheimer, N.C. – Carly Garrison scored four goals to lead 14th-ranked Pfeiffer University to a 10-8 upset win over the second-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field.
Senior attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal at the 22:19 mark.
The Lady Falcons answered with two goals in a span of 46 seconds to take their first lead of the contest. Kristina Anderson scored Pfeiffer's first goal with 21:03 remaining off a pass from Delaney Miller. Garrison then gave her team the lead with an unassisted tally with 20:17 to play in the half.
Le Moyne countered with a pair of free-position goals 1:22 apart to regain the lead. Redshirt sophomore midfielder Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) netted the first goal with 19:54 left, while Bauer gave the Dolphins the lead with 18:32 remaining.
Following 10 and one-half minutes of scoreless action, Pfeiffer evened the score at three apiece as Sarah Daly scored off a pass from Shannon Bonnel.
The Dolphins then took their largest lead of the game with two goals in a stretch of 1:41. Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Armstrong (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) gave Le Moyne the lead with her second goal of the season with 6:38 left. Senior attacker Kelly Condon (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) followed by finishing off a feed from freshman attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) with 4:57 to go in the half.
Gracie Herbert closed out the scoring in the first half by finding the back of the net with 28 seconds left off a pass from Bonnel.
The Lady Falcons tallied the first two goals of the second half to regain the lead. Garrison evened the score at five apiece 7:26 into the half with an unassisted goal. With 19:09 remaining, Bonnel converted a free-position shot to put Pfeiffer up 6-5.
Condon converted a free-position shot of her own with 16:58 left to knot the score at six-all.
Pfeiffer responded with the game's next four goals. Garrison registered the go-ahead in transition with 16:16 remaining. Three and one-half minutes later, Kristi Korn finished off a feed from Miller to give the Lady Falcons their first multi-goal lead of the game. Kristina Anderson pushed the lead to three goals with her second tally of the season with 9:14 to play. Garrison then capped the run with an unassisted goal with 6:56 remaining.
Following a save by sophomore goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River), the Dolphins attempted to mount a comeback. Bauer netted her third goal of the season with 5:10 left to get Le Moyne within 10-7. After two more saves by Marbut and a caused turnover by freshman defender Emily Barron (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), Condon found the back of the net with 58 seconds left off a pass from Bauer.
Bonnel collected the ensuing draw control and the Lady Falcons were able to run the clock out.
Marbut finished the game with 12 saves in taking the loss between the pipes. Cassidy Wilson earned the win for the Lady Falcons after making six saves, including four in the second half.
Le Moyne (2-1), which lost to a team outside the top-10 in the IWLCA poll for the first time since reclassifying to Division II in 2011 (26-0 previously), opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at Merrimack at 12:00 p.m.
