WLAX: VALLETTA & KENVILLE RECORD HAT TRICKS TO LEAD
‘PHINS OVER LA SALLE 11-9
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Le Moyne midfielders Mia Valletta
(Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) and Maura Kenville
(Syracuse, NY / CBA) each recorded three goals each in
leading Le Moyne to an 11-9 victory over La Salle. The Dolphins
improved to 3-4 on the season while La Salle fell to 2-3.
La Salle opened a 2-0 advantage to open the game on unassisted
goals from Ashley Rutz and Jill Davis. Kenville netted her first
goal of the day on the first of four assists by McKenzie
Gray (Baldwinsville, NY / Baldwinsville) at the 23:03 mark
of the first half trimming the gap to 2-1. Following another
Explorer goal by Rutz, the Dolphins responded with goals from Gray
and Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, NY /
Baldwinsville) to tie the game at 3-3 less than 10 minutes
into the game.
Midway through the first half, Le Moyne surged ahead with three
unanswered goals to take a 6-4 led with less than 14 minutes
remaining in the half. Ashley Rutz connected for her third goal of
the half and Rachel Baker added a goal to push a 6-6 tie going into
the intermission.
In the second half, the Dolphins opened the scoring with goals from
Kenville and Valletta to build an 8-6 advantage. Le Moyne and La
Salle would trade goals most of the second half. La Salle pulled
within one goal at 10-9 on a goal from Baldwinsville native Stefany
McKee with 8:51 to play. That would be as close as the Explorers
got as Jennifer Lewis (East Syracuse, NY / ESM)
sealed the victory with the second of two goals on the day with
nine seconds remaining.
Le Moyne was the beneficiary of outstanding play in goal once again
by Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, NY / West Genesee) as
the freshman net minder recorded 14 saves. In seven career games,
Fucillo has recorded double figures in saves in all but two
outings. She currently ranks among the nation’s best in saves
per game with just under 13 per game.
The win also marked the 80th career victory for head coach Lauren
O’Connor.
Le Moyne returns to action on Tuesday, March 17th as they host
Niagara. This game was rescheduled from a postponed date earlier
this season.
