VECCHIO NAMED TO IWLCA NORTHEAST REGION SECOND TEAM FOLLOWING 80-POINT CAMPAIGN

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Whitney Vecchio, the points leader for the 2008 edition of Le Moyne College women's lacrosse, was picked to the IWLCA Northeast Region Second Team. Ranked second on the college's all-time points list, she joins a select group of 128 student-athletes from across Division I women's lacrosse honored by the IWLCA.

Vecchio contributed on the offensive side of the field since her freshman year. After tallying 30 goals as a freshman, she contributed a team-best 68 points in her sophomore campaign and followed up with 51 points during an injury-shortened junior year. In her final season on the Heights, she led the Dolphins in points once again. Her 80 points during the 2008 season rank third on the single-season scoring list. Vecchio racked up 52 goals and 28 assists in 2008 to lead a 12-5 Le Moyne squad in both statistical categories.

Vecchio's 237 career points put her second in the program's record books behind 2007 graduate Amanda Keegan. Le Moyne's women lacrosse program earned 53 wins during her career, including a berth in the 2007 Division I NCAA Tournament.

Several schools, including Syracuse University, Boston University and Boston College, are represented on the IWLCA Northeast Region's First and Second Teams. The IWLCA and U.S. Lacrosse will pull from regional teams in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South and West/Midwest regions to choose National All-Americans. All-American selections will be announced May 29.
