LE MOYNE EXPLODES FOR NINE FIRST HALF GOALS TO CRUISE TO A 16-7 WIN OVER ‘NOVA.

VILLANOVA, PA – Led by senior Whitney Vecchio’s four goals, the Le Moyne women’s lacrosse team surged for nine first half goals en route to a 16-7 victory over Villanova on Friday. The Dolphins scored a season high 16 goals to win their third straight game and improve to 6-4 on the season. Villanova dropped their fourth straight game to fall to 2-6.

The Dolphins took a commanding 9-1 lead after the first 30 minutes of play. Maura Kenville got Le Moyne started with her lone goal just 1:16 into the game. Two straight goals by Nerissa Barzee extended the lead to 3-0. The Wildcats broke through for their goal of the first period when Amanda Carlson found the back of the net. Five straight goals to close only the half, two by Vecchio, would extend the Le Moyne advantage to 9-1 entering the intermission.

While the Wildcats scored the first three goals of the second period, Nerizza Barzee netted her third goal of the game on a free position shot to put the Dolphins up 10-4 with over 22 minutes to play. Goals by Kylie Rosette, Jennifer Lewis, Jackie Lundblad, Beth Sierotnik and two from Vecchio put the game out of reach and propelled Le Moyne to victory down the stretch.

Vecchio’s led the Dolphins with five points on four goals and one assist. Barzee added four points on three goals and one assist. Kylie Rosette added two goals and seven other Dolphins added one goal to lead a balanced attack. Samantha Falcone earned the win in goal as she recorded 12 saves on the night.

Le Moyne returns to the field for the third time in the last eight days as they travel to face Siena on Tuesday, April 1st at 4:00 PM.
