THREE GOALS FROM ELMER & PHILLIPS WERE NOT ENOUGH AS VERMONT EDGES LE MOYNE 15-11.

Burlington, VT – Three goals each by freshmen Rebekah Elmer and Michelle Phillips were not enough as Le Moyne fell to Vermont 15-11 on Sunday on a snowy Catamount campus. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 3-4 on the season as Vermont improves to 4-1.

Le Moyne would push out to an early lead on Vermont as Whitney Vecchio scored the first of her two goals on the day on an assist from Kylie Rosette just over four minutes into the game. Elmer would add her first goal of the day just :21 seconds later to increase the Dolphin lead to 2-0. Vermont’s Kristen Millar would score the next two goals for the Catamounts to even the contest at 2-2. Phillips and Elmer would team up to score the next two Dolphin goals to regain a two-goal advantage midway through the first half. Vermont would outscore the Dolphins 6-1 over the final 12 minutes in the first half to take an 8-5 advantage into halftime.

Jennifer Lewis’ second goal of the game :41 seconds into the second half on a free position shot pulled the Dolphins within two at 8-6. Elmer would add another free position goal to pull the Le Moyne within one at 8-7 1:36 into the second period. Vermont would push the lead back to two before two goals by Michelle Phillips tied the game at 9-9 with just 15 minutes to play.

Five straight goals by Vermont over a ten minutes span would push the Catamount lead to 14-9 with 4:11 remaining and propelled them to the 15-11 victory.

Vermont was led by Kristen Millar and Sara Buxton who added four goals each. Meaghan Hanley had eight saves in goal for the victory.

Le Moyne returns to action on Tuesday, March 18th as they travel to take on Binghamton at 7:00 PM
