VECCHIO, ELMER AND MCCARTH LEAD THE DOLPHINS TO 14-8
VICTORY OVER MONMOUTH
SYRACUSE, NY – Le Moyne’s Whitney Vecchio,
Rebekah Elmer and Lisa McCarthy all
recorded four points each as the Dolphins cruised to 14-8 victory
over Monmouth University on Friday at Solvay High School. With the
victory, Le Moyne evens there record at 2-2, while Monmouth drops
their first game of the season to move to 2-1 on the year.
Freshman Rebekah Elmer opened the scoring for the Dolphins with an
unassisted goal just 1:39 into the game. It would be the first of
four straight goals for the Dolphins to open the game and take
an early 4-0 advantage. Monmouth would rally for three straight
goals to pull within one at 4-3. Le Moyne would score four of the
final five goals of the half, highlighted by two
goals Michelle Lissner, to take an 8-4
advantage into halftime.
The Dolphins would pull away in the second half as they tallied the
first three goals of the half to take a commanding 11-4 advantage
with just over 25 minutes to play. Goals by Lisa McCarthy, Whitney
Vecchio and Mia Valletta helped keep the Hawks at
bay to secure the 14-8 victory.
For Monmouth, Rachel Feirstien scored three goals while Megan
Brennas and Megan Nutter both netted two goals each.
Senior Samantha Falcone recorded 12 saves in goal
against only six goals in earning the win in the nets for the
Dolphins.
Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday, March 9th as they travel to
Albany for a 1:00 PM draw.
