LE MOYNE FALLS TO STANFORD 14-6 IN 2008 SEASON
OPENER.
STANFORD, CA – The Le Moyne women’s lacrosse team
opened their 2008 campaign with a 14-6 loss to Stanford University
Saturday afternoon. The game marked the first Division I
women’s lacrosse game of the season.
Le Moyne’s Whitney Vecchio scored the games first goal on an
assist from Kylie Rosette to give the Dolphins an early 1-0
advantage. Lisa McCarthy would follow with one of her three goals
on the afternoon to boost the Dolphin lead to 2-0. Stanford would
rally to score the next three goals inside of one minute to take a
one goal advantage at 3-2. Freshman Rebekah Elmer scored her first
goal in her career to tie the game at 3-3. The Cardinal would
strike for one more goal before the intermission as Daphne
Patterson would notch her first of six goals on the afternoon to
give Stanford a 4-3 lead into halftime.
The Cardinal charged out of halftime scoring the games next seven
goals to take a commanding 10-4 lead with just 14 minutes to play.
McCarthy would break the string as she scored her second goal of
the game with just over 10 minutes in regulations. Stanford would
string together four more goals to put the game out of reach.
Samantha Falcone recorded 17 saves in goal for the Dolphins.
This marks the second consecutive season where Dolphins have
opened the season against an opponent from California. Last season,
Le Moyne traveled to take on California-Berkeley to open the 2007
campaign.
Le Moyne returns to action in three weeks when the Dolphins travel
to take on Cincinnati on Saturday, March 23rd at 2:00 PM
