Le Moyne Athletics : Le Moyne picked to win MAAC, Dolphins land five on preseason all-conference team

LE MOYNE WOMEN'S LACROSSE PICKED TO FINISH FIRST IN MAAC PRESEASON POLL

EDISON, N.J. - The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team was picked to finish first in the 2007 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season, Le Moyne finished with a 15-4 overall record and went undefeated at 7-0 in the MAAC regular season and won its third MAAC tournament championship.

The defending MAAC champions earned 58 points in the coaches' poll, while Canisius and Fairfield tied for second with 48 points. Marist finished fourth with 43, fifth was Manhattan with 31, Siena and Iona tied for sixth with 23 each and Niagara was eighth with 14.

Along with being picked to finish first, there were five Dolphins picked for the 2007 Preseason All-MAAC Team. Whitney Vecchio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown), who finished the 2006 season with a program record 68 points on 28 goals and 40 assists. Lisa McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), who finished her freshman season with 31 goals and 16 assists. Kristen Malecki (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville), finished the season with three goals and one assist out of the defensive end and caused 14 turnovers. Amanda Keegan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus), who finished with a team high of 45 goals, and 2006 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Samantha Falcone, who made 168 saves, had a goals against average of 8.53 and a save percentage of .509.

The Dolphins open their 2007 season on February 25 at California Berkeley at 1:00 p.m.
