LATE CHARGE GIVES AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL 68-47 WIN OVER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Four players scored in double figures to lead American International College to a 68-47 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Freshman guard/forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) was the only Dolphin to land in double figures with 13 points. Sophomore forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) grabbed a game best-tying 10 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end.

Krista Ferrentino led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points, all of which were scored in the second half, while pulling down nine rebounds. Sarah Noble recorded 13 points and nine rebounds, while Sydney Tepley registered 12 points (10 in the second half) and nine rebounds. Ebony Easter posted a double-double of 10 points and a game high-tying 10 rebounds.

American International (12-10, 9-9 NE-10) opened the contest with the first seven points over a span of 1:23. Tepley made a lay-up, Easter followed with a lay-up and then Noble drained a three-pointer to force a Le Moyne timeout.

After Easter made a jumper to give American International a 9-3 lead with 16:12 remaining in the first half, the Dolphins scored 10 straight points to take the lead. Brown converted a fast-break lay-up, sophomore forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) drained back-to-back three-pointers and then junior guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made a fast-break lay-up for a 13-9 lead with 8:04 left.

The teams then traded runs to close out the half. Briana Bishop nailed a three-pointer to snap a scoring drought of 9:33 and Noble followed with a jumper to give the Yellow Jackets a 14-13 edge with 6:04 remaining. The Dolphins answered with five straight points to retake a four-point lead. Freshman guard Lauren Salzbrenner (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan North) made a pair of foul shots and then Greer connected on a three-pointer.

After Nathalia da Costa and Salzbrenner each scored three points, the Yellow Jackets rattled off eight straight points in a span of 57 seconds to take a 25-21 lead. Easter made a lay-up, Erica Johnson followed with a three-pointer and then Bishop nailed a three-pointer.

Le Moyne (5-17, 3-15 NE-10) responded with the final seven points of the half to take a 28-25 lead into the intermission. McKnight started the push with two free throws, senior guard Torie Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) followed with a three-pointer from the right wing for the lead and then McKnight beat the first half buzzer with a lay-up off a steal by Brown.

After the Dolphins scored five of the first nine points of the second half to extend their lead to four, American International tallied 15 consecutive points over a span of 4:51. Ferrentino had the first six points, Tepley added four points, Noble drilled a three-pointer and Easter capped the streak with a jumper with 13:13 left.

The Dolphins scored six straight points in a span of 1:35 to pull within five points, but they could not get any closer. Pucello, sophomore guard Alex Marple (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) and Brown had lay-ups in the span.

Following six points from each team over the next two and one-half minutes resulted in a 50-45 American International lead, the Yellow Jackets scored eight straight points and 18 of the game's final 20 points to secure the victory. In the 8-0 spurt, Ferrentino had a lay-up, Bishop canned a three-pointer and Noble made three foul shots.

After a jumper by Marple with 5:48 left that ended Le Moyne's scoring, Ferrentino scored four points and Noble, Johnson and Easter each scored two points to close out the game.

Le Moyne returns to the hardwood on Saturday at the University of New Haven at 1:30 p.m.
