#17 STONEHILL PULLS AWAY FROM WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN SECOND HALF FOR 78-57 WIN

Syracuse, N.Y. – Jamie Panton and Amy Pelletier combined to hit 11 three-pointers to lead 17th-ranked Stonehill College to a 78-57 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Le Moyne (4-11, 2-9 NE-10) was led offensively by sophomore forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay), who established a new career high for the third straight game with 19 points, while pulling down a career-best nine rebounds. Freshman guard/forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) was the only other Dolphin in double digits, scoring 10 points, while dishing out three assists and recording three steals.

Panton hit 6-of-9 shots from behind the three-point line en route to leading all scorers with 21 points. Pelletier finished the game with 15 points on five three-pointers in nine attempts in 23 minutes off the bench. Tori Faieta registered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, while blocking three shots. Asia Ewing gave the Skyhawks four players in double figures with 11 points. Point guard Mary Louise Dixon dished out 10 assists, pulled down five rebounds, scored three points and had three steals.

Stonehill (14-1, 10-1 NE-10) scored six of the first nine points of the second half to extend its lead to 38-27 with 17:40 remaining. The Skyhawks then ran off 15 of the next 20 points to push their advantage above 20 for the first time. Pelletier nailed a pair of three-pointers around a long-range jumper by Paige Marshall, while Ewing added two lay-ups and Dixon converted a lay-up.

Following a jumper by Pucello, the Skyhawks scored nine straight points and 16 of the next 18 points to open up their largest lead of the game with 7:27 left. Seven different Skyhawks accounted for the 16 points, led by four points from Panton.

After Alee Leteria made a lay-up with 6:53 left to make the score 71-38, the Dolphins closed out the game with 19 of the last 26 points. Pucello led the charge with 11 points, while Brown had six points and junior guard Raven Short (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) made a lay-up.

After two baskets from each team in the opening 1:16, the Skyhawks scored eight straight points and 14 of the next 17 points. Panton started the run with a three-pointer, Faieta followed with a jumper and then Marshall nailed a three-pointer. Following a Pucello three-pointer, Panton hit back-to-back three-pointers off feeds from Dixon to give the Skyhawks their first double-digit lead with 15:05 left.

The Dolphins countered with five straight points to trim their deficit to six with 11:01 remaining. Freshman forward Lauren Price (Humble, Texas/Atascocita) started the push with a free throw, junior guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) followed with a fast-break lay-up and then Brown made a jump shot.

Stonehill pushed its lead back to 10 on three occasions, the last of which came at 28-18 with 6:48 left, but Price made back-to-back jumpers to get the Dolphins within 28-22 with 2:48 remaining. The Skyhawks closed out the half with four of the last six points to take a 32-24 lead into halftime.

Le Moyne, which has dropped five straight NE-10 games, returns to action on Wednesday against UMass Lowell at 5:30 p.m.
