LE MOYNE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SELECTED EIGHTH IN NORTHEAST-10
CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
South Easton, Mass. - The Le Moyne College women's basketball team
has been selected to finish eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference
standings, as voted on by the league's 16 head coaches. Stonehill
College, which lost in last year's regional championship game,
received 11 of the possible 16 first-place votes for 219 total
points, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Bentley garnered two first-place votes to finish second with 206
points, while National Runner-Up Franklin Pierce was tabbed third
after receiving the last three first-place votes and 201 points.
Pace earned 172 points to finish fourth, just ahead of Assumption,
which tallied 163 points to cap the top five.
Southern New Hampshire, which knocked the Dolphins out of last
season's conference tournament, was chosen to finish sixth with 152
points with American International following in seventh with 144
points. The Dolphins, who finished 12-10 in league play one year
ago, garnered 113 points to just edge out New Haven for place
eighth in the poll. The Chargers picked up 112 for ninth place,
while Saint Rose closed out the top-10 with 100 points. Saint
Michael's was tabbed to finish in 11th place with 91 points,
followed by UMass Lowell (68), Merrimack (57), Southern Connecticut
State (52), conference newcomer Adelphi (41) and Saint Anselm (29)
to round out the standings.
Le Moyne returns six letterwinners, including one starter, from
last year's 15-13 squad. The Dolphins are led by senior
all-conference selection Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks,
N.Y./Northeast Clinton). Coryea was named to the
conference's Second Team for the second straight year as a junior
after leading the team in scoring (13.4) and rebounding (7.9).
First-year head coach Rich Conover's team features six newcomers,
including three Division I transfers, along with the return of
sophomore forward Brandy Wangelin (Olean,
N.Y./Olean), who redshirted last season. Senior guard
Muffy Sadler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/John F.
Kennedy/Binghamton) scored 6.2 points and grabbed 2.5
rebounds per game, while hitting 45% of her three-point attempts,
last year at Binghamton.
The Dolphins open the season on Wednesday, Nov. 18 against
Northeast-10 opponent Southern Connecticut State at 5:30 p.m. The
Northeast-10 Championship begins on Sunday, Feb. 28 with First
Round action and concludes on Sunday, March 7 with the championship
final.
