WBB: LE MOYNE STORMS PAST AIC, 73-52, IN NE-10 ACTION

Syracuse, N.Y. – Led by second-year graduate student Jacquelin Precious(Fonthill, Ontario/Governor Simcoe/St. Peter's College) 15 points, the Le Moyne women’s basketball team ran past American International College, 73-52, in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court. The win was Le Moyne’s third straight and fourth in five games.

For the second straight game, stellar shooting from three-point range secured a Le Moyne win. The Dolphins shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from long-range for the contest and knocked down eight second-half trifectas. Precious led Le Moyne’s charge from beyond the arc, knocking down all five of her three-point attempts, en route to her team-best 15 points. Three other Dolphins scored in double-figures including senior Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart (N.J.)), junior Meg Murphy (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Millbrook) and sophomore Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson).

Holden went for 13 points and eight rebounds while Murphy (11) and Felice (10) combined for 21 points off of the bench. Le Moyne’s bench outscored AIC on the night, 28-12. Junior Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) matched Holden’s game-high eight rebounds and scored nine points of her own. Junior Siobhan Shields (Mason, N.H./St. Bernard's Central Catholic) was stellar in her first start of the season, netting eight points on four-of-six shooting from the field. Sophomore Ashley McFarlan (Kennesaw, Ga./St. John the Baptist) shared in Le Moyne’s bench success with six points on a pair of three-pointers, three rebounds and a pair of assists.

Le Moyne led the entire way in the second stanza and it was the team’s three-point attack that never allowed the Yellow Jackets within striking distance. When AIC pulled within 10 points at the 12:33 mark of the second half, McFarlan answered with a three. The Yellow Jackets trimmed Le Moyne’s lead to nine with 10:49 to play but Precious’ third three-pointer of the game was the spark that sent Le Moyne on its way.

After AIC made the score 48-39, the Dolphins exploded on a 24-4 run over a six-minute stretch. Eighteen of the points came by way of the long-range jumper as Precious (3), Murphy (2) and Felice (1) each contributed three-point buckets. The Dolphin lead was 29 points with 4:12 to play, at 72-43, and AIC scored nine of the game’s final 10 points to round out the scoring.

A seven-point spurt by Le Moyne in a 90-second stretch late in the first half gave the Dolphins a double-digit lead that it carried for the majority of the second half. With under three minutes to play in the first half, four points from Coryea plus a three from Murphy and fast-break lay-up from Felice turned a six-point Dolphin lead into a 30-17 advantage.

For AIC, Laechia Conley scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down six rebounds. Stacy Boisvert finished with 10 points and six boards for the Yellow Jackets while Michelle DeRoma chipped in with eight points off of the bench. AIC (15-8, NE-10 10-5) entered the game at third in the Northeast-10 Conference standings but Le Moyne came away with the regular-season sweep of the Yellow Jackets.

The Dolphins (11-9, NE-10 8-7) travel to New Haven for a 2 p.m. Saturday game before returning to Ted Grant Court to host Pace next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
