WBB: NEW HAVEN EDGES DOLPHINS, 56-55, IN NE-10 ACTION


Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior forward Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds, but the Le Moyne College women's basketball team fell to New Haven, 56-55, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

Following a 4-4 tie with 16:41 remaining in the first half, the Dolphins went on a 16-6 run to open up a 10-point lead at 20-10. Sophomore guard Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) drilled a three-pointer and jumper to lead the Dolphins in the streak. New Haven charged back with a 14-4 run of its own to even the score at 24 apiece with 3:08 remaining in the half. Coryea put back a miss by Felice and senior guard Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family) connected on a three-pointer as the Dolphins closed the half on a 5-2 run to take a 29-26 halftime lead.

After the Chargers tallied eight consecutive points to open the second stanza, Le Moyne went on a 17-0 run over the next five minutes to open a 46-34 lead. Coryea bookended the streak with a pair of baskets, while senior guard Kathleen Gladstone (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) posted six points in the run.

New Haven, which earned its first Northeast-10 Conference victory, scored 20 of the game's next 23 points to take a five point lead with 5:16 remaining in the contest. Helin Marte gave New Haven the lead with seven points in the run, while Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty scored seven points in the run and connected on a three-pointer to cap the streak.

Following a pair of free throws by Coryea, Felice pulled down an offensive rebound and scored on the put back to pull the Dolphins with one at 54-53 with 2:46 remaining in regulation. Briiana Rende extended New Haven's lead to three with a pair of foul shots with nine seconds remaining. With one second remaining, Gladstone was fouled while a attempting a game-tying three-pointer. After connecting on the first two foul shots, her third attempt came up short and the Chargers pulled down the rebound.

Coryea's 18 rebounds were the most by a Dolphin since Stacy Schrader posted 19 against Bridgewater State on Nov. 23, 2002. Coryea recorded seven of her 18 rebounds on the offensive end of the court, while also blocking five shots and dishing out a team-high four assists. Gladstone joined Coryea in double-figures with 12. Ithier-Vicenty scored a game-high 14 points for New Haven, with Rende adding 11 points and Marte contributing 10. Freshman forward Nikki Carroll grabbed 10 boards for the Chargers.

Le Moyne (2-2, NE-10 0-2) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at American International in Springfield, Mass. at 5:30 p.m.
