WBB: SAINT ROSE TAKES DOWN LE MOYNE, 65-56, IN NE-10 HOME OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. - Four players reached double-figures in scoring and senior Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart (N.J.)) finished with a double-double but the Le Moyne College women's basketball dropped its Northeast-10 Conference opener to The College of Saint Rose, 65-56, at Ted Grant Court. The tilt marked the Dolphins' first home game of the season.

Le Moyne opened up a four-point lead twice in the first seven minutes of action. Six different Dolphins netted the team's first seven field goals to build a 17-14 lead by the 10:36 mark of the first half. A three-pointer from graduate student Jacquelin Precious (Fonthill, Ontario/Governor Simcoe/St. Peter's College) punctuated Le Moyne's steady offense in the first 10 minutes of play.

But the Golden Knights took the lead with 8:58 to play in the first half and never relinquished it. A 17-4 run to close the half padded a 10-point halftime cushion for Saint Rose. Holden collected six points and six boards in the first half for the Dolphins but the Golden Knights forced 14 Le Moyne turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Despite being held without a field goal for a ten-minute stretch in the first half, the Dolphins twice whittled down the Saint Rose lead to five in the second half. A lay-up by Holden made the score 53-48 with 6:24 left to play but the Golden Knights converted eight-of-nine free throws down the stretch to ice the win.

Holden led all Le Moyne scorers with 14 points and her 11 rebounds were a game-high. Junior Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) finished with 13 points on six-of-seven shooting from the field. She collected seven boards on the night, including six on the offensive end. Precious and senior Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family) each contributed 10 points to Le Moyne's cause.

The College of Saint Rose (3-0, NE-10 1-0) was led by Dana Brown's game-high 20 points. Elizabeth Buckley poured in 15 points and Ashley Anderson chipped in with seven points and nine boards for the Golden Knights. In 12 minutes of work off the bench, Suzana Sormaz scored nine points.

Le Moyne (2-1, NE-10 0-1) seeks its first Northeast-10 Conference win when it returns to Ted Grant Court against New Haven on Saturday. The game is slated for 1 p.m. and precedes men's basketball action.
