HOLDEN LEADS FOUR DOLPHINS IN DOUBLE-DIGITS IN 70-52 WIN OVER PITT.-JOHNSTOWN

Kutztown, Pa. - Senior forward Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as the Le Moyne College women's basketball team opened the season with a 70-52 win over Pitt.-Johnstown in the first game of the Golden Bear Classic at Kutztown University's Keystone Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Dolphins opened the contest by jumping out to an 11-1 lead over the first three and one-half minutes. Junior forward Brittany Davis (Detroit, Mich./Oak Park/Labette College (Kan.)) capped the streak with a jumper off an assist by senior guard Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family), who also drilled a three-pointer in the run. After the Lady Cats pulled within three points at 13-10 with 14:47 remaining in the half, Le Moyne held a lead between five and nine points the remainder of the stanza, including a five-point cushion (37-32) at the intermission. Davis, a junior college transfer from Labette Community College in Kansas, tallied 11 points on five-of-nine shooting in 11 minutes of action in her Le Moyne debut.

Le Moyne extended its lead to 13 points just over eight minutes into the second half with a 12-4 run. Junior all-conference forward Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) started the streak with a jump-shot at the 18:05 mark and Davis capped the run with a foul shot.

After trading points over the next eight and one-half minutes, the Dolphins closed the contest with a 10-3 run over the final 2:48 of the game. Holden ignited the final run with a pair of baskets in a 12-second span.

The Dolphins out-shot the Lady Cats in the contest, 40.7% to 27.9%, while forcing 25 turnovers to their own 14. Holden added six rebounds and two blocks to go along with her 16 points in just 20 minutes of action. Davis finished the game with 13 points, as well as four rebounds, two blocks, two steals and a pair of assists. Coryea posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Dunn chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Kathleen Gladstone (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) dished out a game-high seven assists and recorded six points. Sheena Aden registered a team-high 14 points for Pitt.-Johnstown.

Le Moyne (1-0), which opened the season with a victory for the third consecutive season, returns to action in the Golden Bear Classic on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Slippery Rock.
