BULLDOGS' BALANCED SCORING ATTACK KEEPS DOLPHINS AT BAY, 65 - 49
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Courtney Coryea scored 13 points and collected six blocked shots but the Le Moyne College women's basketball team fell to Bryant University, 65 - 49, at Ted Grant Court in Northeast-10 Conference action. Three days after scoring an upset against No. 15 Franklin Pierce, the Dolphins (8-9, 5-8 NE-10) struggled to find an early offensive groove. The Bulldogs (12-6, 7-6 NE-10) saw four scorers reach double-figures, led by Kristin Mraz's 14 points.
Bryant took a 12-point lead into halftime with the help of a 20-8 run to open up the game. The Bulldogs capitalized on perfect free-throw shooting in the first half (7-for-7) and utilized a swarming defense to contest Dolphin shooters. Le Moyne shot just 30.8% (8-for-26) in the first half. Katie Dunn trimmed the Bryant lead to nine points at the 5:20 mark of the first half but the Bulldogs responded with a trio of jumpers to end the half.
The Dolphins' offense was aided by stellar shooting from beyond the arc in the second half. Dunn knocked down a pair of trifectas and the team shot 57.1% (4-for-7) from three-point range. Le Moyne's defense turned away 10 shots on the day, led by Coryea's six rejections. Dunn finished with 10 points, Jacquelin Precious collected nine points and Kathleen Gladstone contributed nine points and four assists.
In addition to Mraz's 14 points, Kelsey O'Keefe (11), Court Schermerhorn (11) and Cara Johnson (10) finished in double-figures. As a team, Bryant converted 81.5% (22-for-27) of their free throws.
Le Moyne hosts St. Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The game is set to be broadcast on Time-Warner 26.
