BINGHAMTON HOLDS OFF LE MOYNE 65-58 IN EXHIBITION PLAY
VESTAL, NY - Le Moyne fell to Binghamton of the America East Conference 65-58 to open the 2007-08 campaign in an exhibition game in front of 1,389 fans at the BU Events Center. The Dolphins were led by Vanessa Holden who notched 15 points and four rebounds in only 17 minutes.
Le Moyne outshot the Bearcats 37.3% (22-59) to 36.8% (21-57) on the game, but lost the battle on the boards as Binghamton collected 16 offensive rebounds to Le Moyne's seven.
Binghamton would take a six point advantage into halftime. Kim Wagoner would net five of her ten points to pull within one point at 30-29. Le Moyne would tie the game shortly after at 30 by a free throw from Courtney Coryea. The Bearcats would respond with a 14-1 run in less than four minutes to take a 44-31 advantage with 15:56 remaining.
A three-pointer by Jacquelin Precious with 5:29 remaining would cap a 23-10 run for the Dolphins to tie the game at 54-54. After a jumper by Holden, the Dolphins took their first lead of the game (56-54) with 4:23 remaining. BU would outscore Le Moyne down the stretch 9-2 to capture the 65-58 victory.
Precious joined Wagoner and Holden in double figures with 11 points in her first game in a Le Moyne uniform. Binghamton was led by Laine Kurpniece's 18 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Thompson and Erica Carter chipped in with 17 and 13 points respectively.
Le Moyne opens the regular season on Saturday, November 17th as they travel to take on Mercyhurst at 2:00 PM.
