WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: PACE UPENDS LE MOYNE 61-51 IN NORTHEAST-10
CONFERENCE FIRST ROUND
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Senior Ashley Wallace (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) scored 18 points to lead sixth-seeded Pace to a 61-51 win over No. 11 seed Le Moyne in a Northeast-10 Conference First Round game at the Goldstein Center. The Dolphins close out their season at 9-19, while Pace (21-7) advances to the quarterfinals. Freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) scored a season-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Le Moyne.
Coryea scored 14 of her game-high point total in the first half. The Dolphins led throughout the first 15 minutes of the opening session and opened up a 15-10 lead on a pair of Coryea free throws with 10:49 remaining in the opening half. Pace took its first lead on Laura Mooney's 3-pointer with 5:10 remaining and scored the final five points of the opening half to take a 24-19 lead into the intermission.
Pace pushed its lead to 10 points early in the second half, but Le Moyne rallied to within one point in the final minutes. The Dolphins scored six straight points, keeping Pace off the board for a three minute, 25 second span to pull within 45-44 on Coryea's free throws with 3:49 left. The host Setters closed out the game on a 16-7 run to advance in the conference tournament.
Coryea's 23 points came on a 9-for-16 effort from the field and 5-for-5 afternoon at the charity stripe. Sophomore Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) chipped in 10 points and sophomore Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) scored nine points. Junior Kim Wagoner (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), who became the program's 13th 1,000 point scorer in the team's last regular season game, added seven points and three assists. The Dolphins made just 17-of-51 (33.3%) from the field, but cashed in 16-of-18 (88.9%) from the free throw line.
Senior Ashley Wallace (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) scored 12 of her 18 points and Liran Buchris chipped in 13 of her 15 points in the second half. After shooting 33.3% (9-for-27) from the field in the opening half, Pace rebounded for a 50% (11-for-22) effort in the second half.
