LINDSAY CARR SETS PROGRAM RECORD WITH 13 ASSISTS AS LE MOYNE UPENDS SAINT MICHAEL'S 64-52
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior point guard Lindsay Carr (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) scored 18 points and handed out a program-record 13 assists as Le Moyne upended Saint Michael's 64-52 in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game at Grant Court. The Dolphins (8-13, 4-12 Northeast-10) have won two straight games, while Saint Michael's dips to 10-10 overall and 7-9 in league action.
Carr's 13 assists topped the previous Le Moyne College women's basketball game record shared by Regan Burns (Feb. 3, 2001) and Kathleen Gladstone (Dec. 10, 2005). Carr hit four-of-six shots from the field and converted all 10 of her free throw attempts to help ice Le Moyne's eighth win of the season.
Freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) scored a game-high 21 points and sophomore Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) netted 10 points to join Carr in double figures for Le Moyne. The Dolphins shot 42.1% (24-for-57) from the field and committed just 15 turnovers. Sophomore Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Jevy Rayner paced Saint Michael's with 19 points. The Purple Knights, 56-49 winners of Le Moyne on December 9 in Colchester, Vt., shot just 18.5% (5-for-27) from the field in the opening half and 27.6% (16-for-58) for the game.
Le Moyne used a strong defensive effort to take a 25-15 lead into the intermission. Jevy Rayner hit a 3-pointer with 13:28 remaining in the opening half to give the visitors a 13-10 lead, but that was the final field goal Le Moyne would allow in that half.
The Dolphins closed out the opening half on a 15-2 run. Dani Rayner finally snapped Saint Michael's field goal drought one minute and 45 seconds into the second half - ending a streak of 15 minutes and three seconds without making a shot from the field. Le Moyne extended its lead to as many as 15 points in the second half as Saint Michael's could pull no closer than eight points in the second half.
Le Moyne hits the road for a Northeast-10 Conference game at No. 24 Stonehill on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
