WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: 2006 NATIONAL FINALIST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE STIFLES LE MOYNE 56-33
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jeannette Johnathan scored 15 points to lead No. 15 American International to a 56-33 Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball win over Le Moyne at Grant Court. The Yellow Jackets (12-3, 7-3 Northeast-10) have won five consecutive games, while Le Moyne falls to 6-8 overall and 2-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) scored 11 points and junior Kim Wagoner (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) chipped in 10 for Le Moyne. The Dolphins shot 25.0% (14-for-56) from the field and managed just one 3-pointer in 17 attempts (5.9%). American International limited Le Moyne to its lowest point total since Southern Connecticut held the Dolphins to 31 points on Feb.21, 2004.
Senior Lindsay Ellis (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) grabbed nine rebounds, seven on the offensive end, to become the program's 14th member of the 500 rebound club. She has grabbed 70 rebounds this season and 501 for her career.
American International led 33-17 at the half and extended its edge to as many as 23 points in the second half.
Lexanne Dickerson and Kristin Boesenberg added 14 points each to join Johnathan in double figures for AIC. The 2006 national runner-up, AIC only made 18 field goals for the game, but hit 10-of-19 from 3-point range. Johnathan drilled three 3-pointers and Boesenberg hit four from long range. The visitors outrebounded Le Moyne 46-39 for the game. AIC has won six straight games against Le Moyne.
Le Moyne hosts No. 5 Southern Connecticut State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
