LE MOYNE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RALLIES FOR 59-57 WIN OVER C.W. POST, DOLPHINS RALLY FROM 12-POINT HALFTIME DEFICIT
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Lindsay Carr (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) scored 10 of her team-high 13 points in the second half as Le Moyne rallied for a 59-57 non-conference women's basketball win over C.W. Post at Grant Court. The Dolphins (6-6) have won back-to-back games, while C.W. Post falls to 5-7 on the season.
Carr's 13 points paced three in double figures for the Dolphins. Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) scored 11 points off the bench and freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) netted 10 points.
Erica Bell scored nine of her game-high 20 points for C.W. Post as the Pioneers jumped out to a 35-23 lead in the first half. The guests limited Le Moyne to a 7-for-23 (30.4%) effort from the field and forced 15 turnovers while outrebounding the Dolphins 23-16.
Le Moyne turned the game in the second half. The Dolphins outrebounded their guests 23-17 - including a 13-6 edge on the offensive glass - over the final 20 minutes. Le Moyne turned the ball over just four times while forcing 10 in the second half.
The Dolphins scored the first six points of the second half to cut the deficit to six at 35-29 on Carr's layup with 14:52 remaining. C.W. Post extended its lead to 10 points on three occasions, but Le Moyne went on a 10-2 run over a five minute stretch that made it a 48-46 game on a Coryea free throw with 4:31 remaining. Gina Catherall answered the run for C.W. Post with a fastbreak layup on the ensuing possession.
Coryea scored on back-to-back possessions to tie the game at 50-all with 2:11 remaining and when Carr was fouled as Coryea's second jumper tied the score - she went to the line to put the Dolphins ahead 52-50. Le Moyne misfired on its first 13 attempts from 3-point range, until freshman Megan Murphy (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Millbrook) gave Le Moyne a 55-50 on a 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:12 remaining. C.W. Post pulled to within one point on Bell's 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds remaining. Carr sealed Le Moyne's sixth win of the season by making one of two free throws in the final second.
Le Moyne travels to Worcester, Mass. for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Assumption on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Dolphins will play three league home games next week, starting on Tuesday against last season's national runner-up American International.
