FRANKLIN PIERCE WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT, OUTLASTS DOLPHINS 66-53
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) scored 25 points and collected five steals to lead Franklin Pierce to a 66-53 win over Le Moyne in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game at Grant Court. The Ravens (6-1, 5-0 Northeast-10) have won six straight games, including all five league contests. Le Moyne (4-4, 2-3 Northeast-10) committed a season-high 29 turnovers in the setback.
The Dolphins carried a 30-28 lead into the intermission, but Franklin Pierce pulled away with a big run and stifling defense over the final five minutes. The Ravens used a 12-1 run to turn a 36-35 deficit with 16:52 left into a 47-37 lead with 13:50 remaining. Le Moyne pulled within four points (50-46) at the 8:02 mark, but could pull no closer as the Ravens held Le Moyne without a field goal over the final five minutes and 44 seconds.
Le Moyne landed three players in double figures. Junior Kim Wagoner (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored 13 points, freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) tallied 12 points and senior Lindsay Carr (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) was six-of-six at the free throw line en route to 10 points. Sophomore Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as Le Moyne outrebounded its guests 39-30.
Johannah Leedham, the top scorer in the Northeast-10 Conference, hit 7-of-13 shots from the field (2-of-3 3FG) and made 9-of-11 from the free throw line for her game-high 25 points. Stephanie Bergeron (Pointe Claire, Quebec) scored 11 points and Jennifer Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) scored 10 points. Johannah Leedham and Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn.) paced the Ravens with five steals each.
Le Moyne travels to Saint Michael's for a 3:30 p.m. game on Saturday. Franklin Pierce heads to fellow league-unbeaten, No. 25 Saint Rose, on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. game.
