KATIE DUNN RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE AS LE MOYNE RECORDS THIRD WIN, 66-58 OVER SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lift Le Moyne to a 66-58 win over Southern N.H. in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game at Grant Court. The Dolphins move to 3-2 overall and even their league mark at 1-1, while Southern N.H. dips to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Dunn's 17 points led three Dolphins in double figures. Freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) scored 16 points and senior Lindsay Carr (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) added 13.
The Dolphins, the league's top team at the free throw line this season, secured their third win of the season with another quality effort at the charity stripe. Dunn went 5-for-6 and Carr hit 5-of-7 to help the hosts to a 16-of-19 (84.2%) effort at the line. The Dolphins are 78-of-100 from the free throw line in five games this season.
Sara Tucker scored 18 points and Ashara Carrington netted 10 to pace Southern N.H. Tucker grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. The Penmen struggled at the free throw line - making just 12-of-24 (50.0%), including only 5-of-13 (38.5%) in the opening half.
The Dolphins answered an early second-half surge with a burst of their own in the second half. Le Moyne took a 31-30 lead into the intermission and turned it into a four-point edge as Dunn opened the second half with a 3-pointer, but Southern N.H. rallied for an 8-0 run to take a 40-36 lead with 17:11 remaining. The Dolphins used a 13-0 run over the next seven minutes to open up a 49-40 lead on Vanessa Holden's (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Conception) layup with 10:24 left. Southern N.H. whittled its deficit to 59-56 on Ashara Carrington's jumper with 65 seconds remaining, but Dunn and Carr drilled seven straight free throws to put away the Penmen.
Le Moyne returns to action on Wednesday at defending Northeast-10 Conference regular season and tournament champion Southern Connecticut. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
